Devolver Digital Films has announced a Call of Duty documentary named CODumentary. The feature-length film delves into the origins of the Call of Duty series, tracing its journey from its inception in 2003 by Infinity Ward, through navigating the competitive WWII shooter market, to its meteoric rise and mainstream success following the release of Modern Warfare.

Written, directed, and produced by Jonathan Beales, CODumentary was filmed across continents, from North America and the UK to the historic D-Day beaches. It aims to capture the stories of developers, professional players, and fans, chronicling over 15 years of the series’ evolution.

“It’s been an incredible five-year journey,” said Beales. “While the documentary centers on video games, the focus remains on the human element—the experiences of creating, playing, and anticipating these games.”

CODumentary premiered globally on September 19, 2017, through the Steam store and VOD via Amazon. It later became available on platforms such as iTunes, Google Play, Mgo, PlayStation, Xbox, TubiTV, Indie Reign, and the Indie Rights Vimeo Channel. A Blu-ray/DVD release followed, though specific dates were not announced at the time.
