Playable Boss Mode in Gundam Versus! New Trailer

They Nailed It!

When we last gave you the latest news about Gundam Versus, we were relying on early reports regarding what Bandai Namco disclosed in a recent tournament. As it turns out, a bit more was actually announced at the tournament, although it didn’t precisely meet the interests of those present. Specifically, a brand-new mode for the game was introduced, along with the debut trailer for the previously announced Phantom Gundam.

You can catch the trailer in the upload of the tournament below, at the 55:28 mark.

Needless to say, they did an excellent job with Phantom Gundam. It distinguishes itself from the other four mobile suits from Crossbone Gundam that are already included. The sound design is remarkable, especially the unique sound when the Phantom Light system activates. I’m also fine with the voice actor, which is great because they are likely to voice Font Baud, the pilot, in all future Gundam games.

The most significant news is the new mode. Besides the one-on-one private matches, a new game type for Ultimate mode will also be incorporated in update 1.05. While Ultimate mode typically pits up to six players against a single boss, the new game type will have up to five players facing a boss controlled by another player. This implies that mobile armors that were usually not playable, such as Big Zam and Psyco Gundam, are now accessible for use, but only for this mode. While more competitive players might not be interested, the more casual players will undoubtedly be drawn to this mode.

Overall, update 1.05 looks extremely promising and further demonstrates that Namco is fulfilling its commitment to continuously update the game with more than just paid DLC. Whether or not the update, along with most of the announced DLC, will be ready for the upcoming international launch remains unknown.

Gundam Versus will be released in North America and Europe on September 29. If you’re intrigued by the game or seeking something distinct to play, an open beta will be available this weekend from September 2 to September 4, and it doesn’t require a PlayStation Plus subscription to participate.
