The Rise of Luffy and the Grand Fleet of Pirates
In the vast world of One Piece, the journey of Luffy from a wannabe pirate to becoming the feared God of One Piece is nothing short of remarkable. He has managed to climb the ranks of infamy during his pirate career and has not only been recognized as a part of the Worst Generation but has also earned the title of Emperor of the Sea. One thing that many big-name pirates possess is a remarkable military force, and examples like Big Mom with her islands of warriors at her command are a testament to this.
As Luffy’s infamy soared, it was only natural that he would form his own fleet. This came to fruition during the Dressrosa Arc when a few of his Colosseum competitors pledged to serve him. Despite Luffy’s initial reluctance, the Grand Fleet was eventually established after Zoro drank all the sake. With the looming final war on the horizon, we may soon see all these pirate groups come together once again. So, let’s take a closer look at each of the pirate groups that make up this 5000-strong fleet.
Straw Hat Pirates
At the helm of the Grand Fleet is none other than Luffy and the beloved Straw Hat Pirates. Luffy serves as the head of the entire fleet, and each member of the Straw Hat crew takes on the role of a senior officer. However, there are no strict responsibilities assigned to them, and they are not obligated to help each other in times of danger. Currently, the Straw Hat Pirates consist of Luffy, Zoro, Sanji, Nami, Robin, Chopper, Jimbei, Brook, and Franky. Whether additional members will join remains a hot topic in the fandom, with Lilith and Jewelry Bonney being among the top contenders.
The Straw Hat Pirates are a diverse group with their own unique abilities and personalities. Luffy, the fearless captain, is known for his rubbery powers and his determination to reach One Piece. Zoro, the skilled swordsman, is a force to be reckoned with in battle. Sanji, the gourmet chef, brings a touch of charm and culinary expertise. Nami, the navigator, keeps the crew on course. Robin, the archaeologist, holds valuable knowledge. Chopper, the reindeer doctor, provides medical support. Jimbei, the former fishman king, adds strength to the crew. Brook, the skeleton musician, brings a unique spirit. And Franky, the cyborg inventor, builds and repairs the ships.
Beautiful Pirates (Cavendish’s crew)
Led by the flamboyant and charismatic Cavendish, the Beautiful Pirates are the first ship of the Grand Fleet. They are known for their striking appearance and elegance. Cavendish, also known as the Pirate Prince, is a famous swordsman with a split personality. His alter ego, Hakuba, emerges when he falls asleep, becoming an uncontrollable, speed-driven berserker.
The Beautiful Pirates crew consists of 75 people, and Cavendish’s beauty is a source of pride for the entire group. Despite their vanity, they are not to be underestimated. Cavendish’s swordsmanship and Hakuba’s terrifying speed give them a powerful edge in battle, making them an important part of the Grand Fleet’s strength.
Barto Club (Bartolomeo’s crew)
Man-Eater Bartolomeo has a deep admiration for Luffy and the Straw Hat Pirates. The other 55 members of his pirate crew, the Barto Club, also share this sentiment. The Barto Club is the Grand Fleet’s second ship, but they are hardly a typical pirate crew. Bartolomeo was once a gangster who decided to set sail after being inspired by Luffy. Despite not having a proper navigator, they managed to reach the New World from East Blue, which is often considered the weakest of the four seas. Bartolomeo himself is the strongest among them, having consumed the Barrier-Barrier Fruit, which is said to be one of the strongest Devil Fruits. He can create almost indestructible barriers, making him a formidable fortress.
Happosui Army (Sai’s crew)
The third ship is Sai’s Happosui Army. It is a martial arts-based pirate crew led by Don Sai, a descendant of the legendary Chinjao family. The crew hails from the Kano Country and specializes in Hasshoken, a martial art that allows users to generate powerful shockwaves through physical strikes. The crew is said to be a thousand strong.
Sai is a formidable warrior, having inherited his grandfather Don Chinjao’s immense strength and mastery of Hasshoken. After defeating his grandfather in combat, Sai became the 13th leader of the Happosui Army. But the Happosui Army is not just about Sai. Baby 5, who defected from the Donquixote Pirates to join, and Boo, who also participated in the Corrida Colosseum, add to the crew’s strength.
Ideo Pirates (Ideo’s crew)
The Ideo Pirates are the fourth ship of the Straw Hat Grand Fleet. It is a small but powerful crew composed of four Corrida Colosseum participants. Ideo, from the Longarm Tribe and a martial artist with explosive punches, is the captain.
The other members of the crew include Blue Gilly, who specializes in kicks like unpredictable steel whips, and Jeet and Abdullah, who fight in tandem, one distracting the opponent while the other launches a sneak attack.
Tontatta Pirates (Leo’s crew)
Leo’s Tontatta Pirates make up the fifth ship of the fleet. They are a crew of 200 dwarves from the Tontatta Kingdom. Despite their small size, the Tontatta Pirates are incredibly strong and fast, making them formidable opponents. They are also skilled in guerrilla warfare, using their size and speed to their advantage in battle. Leo possesses the Sew-Sew Fruit, which allows him to stitch and manipulate objects, including living beings.
New Giant Warrior Pirates (Hajrudin’s crew)
Not to be confused with the legendary Giant Warrior Pirates, the New Giant Warrior Pirates is Hajrudin’s attempt to revive the glory of the Giant pirate crew. It is also the sixth ship of the Grand Fleet. The crew consists of five Giants, including Hajrudin, and they are one of the strongest assets of the fleet. Before joining the Straw Hat Grand Fleet, Hajrudin worked as a mercenary under Buggy’s Delivery and left that life behind to sail under the Straw Hat Pirates’ flag.
Yonta Maria Fleet (Orlumbus’ crew)
The Yonta Maria Fleet is the largest and most organized of the Straw Hat Grand Fleet’s pirate groups and is the seventh ship. Led by Orlumbus, a former adventurer turned pirate, it commands a massive fleet with thousands of crew members. Orlumbus is known for his discipline and order, and his fleet is well-equipped and highly coordinated, capable of carrying out large-scale naval operations with precision.
In conclusion, the Grand Fleet of pirates is a diverse and powerful force, each group with its own unique characteristics and contributions. With Luffy at the helm, they are ready to face the challenges that lie ahead in their pursuit of One Piece and the adventures that await.
